In my understanding, the processes of the brain have

  1. parts that are totally gene- dependent,
  2. parts that are dependent on experiences of the early years (and that can be changed with much effort)
  3. parts that are dependent on engraved habits and patterns of learning and experiencing (and that can be changed by education by awareness).
  4. parts that are dependent on normal retrieval of data of memory... and last but not least...
  5. parts where actual awareness is seated.

Feeling and emotions are based mainly in 1 - 4, but become aware in 5.

Mature actual awareness uses aforementioned functions (that are limited by the material structure)...

But awareness can also use logic - I call it Spirit, in this context - that is not limited by material structure. It is able to enter non-material realms.

This freedom in awareness enables us to look at our own upcoming thoughts critically and undertake a change of the basis of these thoughts. I call it: educating consciousness.

The basic knowledge and basic convictions of the first mentioned parts are the structured building blocks of daily thinking, deciding and experiencing. New experiences and insights make a change of daily thoughts - and consequently of the building blocks - unavoidable. Many superficial convictions have to be reshuffled and aborted. That is what we call a crisis.
