Integral Awareness
As some of you know, I do not read much, so
in the following I solely refer to my own thoughts and experience.
Integral Awareness means training, when looking
at people, objects, systems or situations and in all decision-making,
of considering as many aspects, levels, perspectives, interactions
and developments in the future as possible.
We cannot strive for perfection, but we can try with openness
and passion.
By Integral Awareness
1. Our health is prevented from harm.
2. Our communication with others is easier and more productive.
3. Daily tasks are coped with in a broader perspective and in
harmony with wider surroundings.
4. It becomes possible to solve more problems in science, organisation
and in the emotional domain.
Some simple examples
1. Physical, mental and emotional health also
depend on the presence of interior incompatibilities. That means
that, if conscious or unconscious convictions do not match,
one conviction blocks the other. The interior disturbance, more
or less, damages health.
The desire to love everyone is blocked, at least partially,
by the conviction that being Rich is better than being Poor.
A healthy personal development is hampered.
Two seemingly incompatible opinions are "God is good" and "God
creates the most terrible things". Integral Awareness in this
case asks for an advanced insight: "Also terrible things are
necessary phases in a good development". Until this insight
is realised, there is a deep, mostly unconscious, dissatisfaction
with creation. This works negatively on wellness and health.
2. In a discussion we very often think we know
the background meaning of the opponent. We then react on our
thinking and not on the thinking of the other. A short-sightedness
with often catastrophic consequences mostly coming up a long
time afterwards. Integral Awareness here consists of openness
and modesty.
A farmer will also be able to perceive the desired rain as bad,
if he is able to imagine the wishes of the tourist.
Contradictions can be caused by false assumptions and also by
opinions that can solely be understood from a different perspective.
3. I want to buy a car... see a magnificent
ragtop, draw my checkbook and make myself unhappy for several
years. Integral Awareness would have been: "Oh, again there
is my wish to possess a large beautiful car.", "It does not
fit in my garage.", "Should I spend so much money that I have
to skip my holidays?" etc.
4a. Science has to consider subjects beyond
space/time in order to achieve an accurate insight in reality.
4b. Organising cooperation is not possible without
the psychic component.
4c. Problems in the development of groups and
nations can merely be solved by a mental and emotional identification
with the persons concerned.
In all cases it is essential, to consider your
own knowledge as incomplete, your own perspective as relative
and subjective and to open yourself for areas that are, intentional
or by ignorance, outside of our scope. It is not sufficient
to integrate familiar domains of knowledge.
